The kind of match you just cannot missed! Being from Montréal, I would have to say Montréal vs Toronto! A huge classic battle for many years!

It's the Habs & Buds

Anyone claiming Ottawa is a bigger foe than Montreal is too new to the game to understand. The Hab fans and Leaf fans are happier when they both lose than when they both win. That's why 1993 was so great. The Leaf fans think they were robbed of the cup. The Habs won, and are still reigning Canadian Stanley Cup Champions.

I have a personal affection for the 3 way rivalry Wings-Avs-Stars of the 90s. It was said the only thing Stars fans and Wings fans could agree on is hating each other and hating the Avs. Much like my favorite team in baseball is whoever is playing the New York Yankees my favorite team in hockey is playing the Avalanche. I of course love the old time rivalries like Maple Leafs vs Habs but for my generation I go with the big 3 from the west.

I would have to agree with most and say:

Toronto- Montreal (just the history of these storied franchises) & Detroit-Colorado ( nothing better than a Roy-Vernon fight to build a rivalry)

But I also think the NHL has made a HUGE mistake by changing the schedule where a Red Wings fan (like myself) doesnt get to see many original 6 match-ups. Even worse the Wings travel to such great hockey cities as L.A., Pho.(ok hockey fans....stop laughing!) and we cant jump on the train to Toronto to see a Wings-Leafs game anymore.

Bettman has brutalized the game for the true fans with his backwards no hockey sense thinking.

Personally, I like the Oilers/Flames rivalry. I'm from Toronto, but I haven't felt the rivalry between the Leafs and Habs as intense as the Leafs and Sens though. But I do study hockey history in my spare time and I have to respect the Leafs/Habs games because of how many times they've fought each other.

I like the modern day rival of the Wings Av's. Different era, Flames v Oil of the late 80's early 90's was pretty amazing! It's still a good rivalry today, just not quite the same!

Leafs vs. Sens
Leafs vs Habs
Leafs vs Sabres

Habs and Sens are top 2, although its hard to say the order, right now I'm going with Sens #1 and Habs 2. Sabres are definitely third though.

East: Rangers vs. Devils

West: Avs vs Wings

Well, Hawks vs Wings was always great, but since the Hawks blow now, I would have to go with Wings vs Avs for the West. For the East, you can't beat the history between Leafs vs Habs.

Although it's not as intense as in the past... gotta agree on the Wings - Aves rivalry.

Montreal vs Toronto (and I've been to Maple Leaf Centre, although not for a hockey game) would be higher on my list if the teams were Stanley contenders.
