I don't Know what tonnage license you want to sit for. First you need a certain amount of documented sea days depending on what license you want. Then you take your days to the Coast Guard Regional Exam Center, fill out an application, and they will evaluate you for a license based on your days. When you figure out what licence you can sit for, you take an exam. If you know how many days you have, know the requirements for the license, and don't know anything, you can go to one of the small three week schools that specialize in small licenses, Florida is full of them.. Generally speaking, a "Captains" license reads Unlimited Master.

It is a federal licensing program. Contact the local Coast Guard or sailing school. You do need to log enough hours which should not be a problem in FL. The school or book time will vary on what type of license you want, along with the hours .

look up a company called "Houston Marine". pronounced howston. they give classes, for a fee, that are guaranteed to help you pass whatever type license test you are applying for. do you have plenty of experience or do you just think you're "special". they don't give credit for being "special". at that point go to the closest Coast Guard installation.
