I want to have a shower fitted in my bathroom. I currently have a combi boiler and am puzzled about the different showers available. Can anybody advise me please? Also, how much am I likely to be charged to get the shower fitted - I am a single woman and, although I understand that quality work comes at a price, I dont want to get ripped off either.

if you have a combi fitted, i would go for an electric shower (8.5kw or above) for if or when your combi breaksdown you can still get washed/bathed. Mira showers are pretty good.

A thermostatically controlled shower compatible for use with combi boilers are widely available. These are most suitable as they have the force of mains pressure to power through showerhead. cost £300 to £700 fitted. Otherwise an electric power shower may be adequate at a more reasonable cost. £250 to £450 fitted.

We have an instantaneous electric shower, i.e. one that heats water as it passes over an element. It runs off the mains so no one turning on a tap or flushing the toilet can affect its temperature. Press the button once, it starts. Press again and it stops. Blonde proof (for my wife ha ha ha).

It is a 10.5 kw model and I got from B & Q for £85 on offer. I installed it myself in a day, having bought pipe, isolating ****, cable, RCD trip and the necessary pull switch. I took a feed from the mains pipe that feeds the cold water tank and fitted an isolating ****.

A professional installation shouldn't cost much more than £100 I should think. I wouldn't pay more than that anyway.

I'd call a local plumbing shop or a local distributor around your area, you'd be amazed at how many places actually have show rooms set up where you can walk in and see the different models already assembled.

Dont forget to bring this with you though:
