Hi, I was wandering, how important are the mock GCSEs for a year 11 student trying to get into a good college?

Hi, many people tihnk that they are not important but they are. my friend in college broke boths her arms in our GCSE's and she couldnt do the propper exam so they took her mock exam, they only do this is special circumstances, i.e you have learning difficulites, you are not there for the exam, and not not if you were ill with a cold, if you were in hospital and can prove this, so yes they are important, especially if you want to get into college. My college is good becasue they help you if you carnt meet the grades they want .

They also help the school and teachers to determin what tier paper you do, there is no point in someone who got a U in a subject being entered in for the higher tier paper is there?

good luck in your mocks.

VERY important. It helps the school to decide what level exam to enter you in. In certain subjects, maths for example, there are 3 different levels of GCSE exam - Higher for A* to C, Intermediate B - D and Lower D - G Grades.

If you need high grades to get on to the course you want to do at College, then you need to be entered for the hardest exam available at GCSE

No importance at all in the actual acceptance...but sometimes colleges ask for references and your teachers may use your mock exam results as a judgement of how well you're likely to do in the real one!

So if your college course asks for reference get studyin...

erm not very important - you already know what an exam situation feels like. To be honest, i find it hard to revise so i hardly did any for them or the real things - somehow I still did quite good, but thats just me. You're predicted to go up at least a grade between now and the real things - so don't lose any sleep over them.

In one way they are not too important but if by any stroke of misfortune you were very ill and not able to sit the real exams then they might look at your mock results to decide your final marks.

I didn't care about mine at all but was lucky to have a photographic memory (until the drink destroyed it- believe your mother when you hit A Levels and she warns you about the partying!!)

Anyway, I digress....

They give teachers an indicator of how you will do in case they are asked for a reference and can also serve to highlight some areas that you need to work harder on.

However, it's worth baring in mind that any work you do NOW will save you time in the summer.... You'll build up a foundation so your revision in summer should be easier and less stressful...

But dont kill yourself over them, they ARENT the final mark (not that one should kill oneself over the final ones either!!!)

GOOD LUCK!

One thing you need to remember is your results don't come out
until 22 aug you will start that sept.
most colleges use your mock results to offer profesional places
plus your references so ifyou a re predict a-c but then in your mocks get d this could limit your college places .
so your mocks are imporant because thats what they might use to ofer that place ,but then they give you the final place when you get your results in aug. so just to get offered you need to do well
in your mocks.

Not incredibly. The predicted grades are the important thing. But doing well on your macks and getting good predicted grades doesn't mean it's going to happen. I got cocky and screwed it all up.
