Most all of the things already mentioned (except the negatives - well except the heat and humidity). It can be quite hot down south.
Born and raised here, love our way of life and wouldn't want to live anywhere else.
People are friendly, generally well mannered and will help you in any way they can.
We say please and thank you, we respect our elders and are quite hospitable - because that is the way we were raised.
A slower lifestyle - we don't get in a hurry about anything in the south, but that doesn't mean we're lazy, we just know how to enjoy life.
Southern cooking - the best! Grits, yes I love them and of course sweet tea.

Corn Bread, chitlings, fried chicken, Georgia peaches and pecans, the southern flag, General Jackson, Southern plantations, cotton, Slavery, Dallas race tracks, Martin Luther King, Lyndon B. Johnson, The Mardi Gra, An Armadilla, The Gulf, Long horned cattle, The Alamo, Red clay of Georgia, cactus, Combinations of cultures, Peanut farmers, Jimmy Carter, Carter Beer, Grapefruit, oranges, Kentucky horses, bootlegging, Reptiles, Texas Panhandle, Cowboys, Paula the wonderful cook and it goes on and on.

A certain stagnancy. A striving for keeping up with the Jones's without taking into account whether the Jones's are worth the bother. Very limited. A none too well concealed taste for venality. Sounds negative, huh? Been there. Not a dig. I saw what I saw.

IN the country-hospitality, freindly. laid back attitude, will help you in a minute, decent, God fearing, moral.
In the city-some of the above, but like most other cities-fast, hustle bustle, high crime-hot.
