Marcus, yeah, my thoughts exactly, but sence she is not my child, I can't just take her laptop away from her. Her father left her with it instead of toys like I told him to have her bring.

I don't own any game systems. I also only have educational toys and such for a child of two years and younger. My son will two in a few days, and those are the onlys I have.

The first game is perfectly fine for anyone to play.

The second may have some questionable content: unlike the first game, where you would have a baby by phoning an adoption service, your Sims can become pregnant through a process called 'WooHoo.'

Basically, how it's displayed is, if you've got two Sims who are in love lying on a bed, you may have the 'WooHoo' option. If you select it, they'll jump under the covers and some comical sound effects are played. Nothing is shown on the screen. Afterwards, the female Sim may become pregnant and experience morning sickness. The process of giving birth is not shown; the baby magically appears above the mother's head and drops into her arms.

Since it's not explicitly shown on-screen, it's your call as to whether or not it's all right for a kid to see it. There is the possibility that it could prompt a "what is WooHoo" question from a child.

As for violence, your Sims can die--usually from fire, starvation or old age. Nothing graphic here, though: when they die, they fall over and turn into a burial urn or a gravestone. Not too much to be worried about here.

Essentially, if you think the under-cover sex is too inappropriate, then I'd recommend The Sims 1, as while it isn't quite as good as TS2, it doesn't have any content I'd consider questionable.

Yes, it is a great game for a 5 year old.
The act of building a house in the Sims is conceptual mathematics. Counting squares, symmetry, money issues and patterns of efficiency. The game text is great reading and since everything is labled, it is impossible not to read.
The game is about meeting the needs of a character and that process introduces children to empathy.
The first edition has the blurred out body when they use the bathroom or shower.

I'd say no. People can die from hunger, or from fear, or disease, and it's really sad and the other Sims cry when they do, so that might be hard to explain to a 5-year-old. There's a lot of kissing and such, but I don't think she'd stumble on the Woo Hoo (sex) on her own.

Personally, I think she might be better off with a colouring book from the dollar store and some crayons.

No...there is some content that a 5 year old, shouldn't be exposed to, and some things are harder to comprend. A five year old shouldn't be playing the Sims...and 5 is a little too young to start video games. Though I started when I was 3, back then games were VERY different. (no violence, sex etc.) If you want them to play a video game, I'd recommend Animal Crossing (Gamecube), its a very kid friendly society.

The sims is a game rated for everyone.I let my niece and son play it.They are between the ages of 4-10.The worst thing in the game is the woo hoo. That is something you'd have to decide on.Other then that you can learn responsibility from the game.So my answer would be yes.
