I had a pet Gopher. Like the kind that tears up your yard. He was trying to get in our house during a storm. I caught him and he lived for about 8 years. We named him Charlie.Sadly he died when it was my brothers turn to clean out his habitrail. He left him out on the patio too long and he over heated. We all cried. Even my mom who never wanted us to keep him in the first place. We're sure he lived longer that he would have in our yard though! I still feel really bad about how he died.

I've got a friend who has a pet raccoon, and I've got a short tail opossum. I'm the only person I know who's ever owned a short tail opossum, let alone even heard of it!

Although it's not necessarily the most exotic pet, the weirdest pet I've known is a family friend that has a pet chicken. This is not your typical chicken in the backyard in a pen. This chicken was just like a dog, living indoors and having free roam of the house. She was litterbox trained, and sat on the couch or chair just like a dog. She clucked at the front door when someone rang the doorbell. They even took her for walks with a special bird harness. Strangest thing I've ever seen!

I knew someone who owned a cougar and someone else who owned a raccoon. He saved the raccoon as it had been hurt in the wild. I also had a teacher who had an indigo snake. I don't know if that is the correct name but it was a blackish blue snake that seemed to be iridescent. I knew people who had pet geese, someone else who had pet grouse and someone who had a bunch of giraffe in Texas it was a weird giraffe ranch.

Dogs are enough for me!

I used to have a turkey who was really cool, except during mating season and when we went to feed him, we had to carry a board in front of us or he would peck at our toes. The other unusual pets I have are hissing cockroaches. They are interesting to watch, easy to feed and stay pretty small but one has to get over the thorny feeling on the feet when holding them. I also have a Mexican Red Knee Tarantula, one of the most docile of tarantulas. Even my 3 1/2 year old grandchild picks it up. The feet do feel like sandpaper though.

When I was two, my mother knew this guy that owned a huge bear - I'm not sure what kind it was because I was so young, and it's a little fuzzy - but I remember walking up to the cage and he put his huge paw on the fence and it was like 5 times bigger than my face!!!

I would say the strangest pet that I have ever heard of anyone having was a river rat.
