Definitely, everyday i see people who seem to be going out of there way to make other peoples lives harder. There are two types of people in the world: The ones which help others and the ones who actively make your life difficult. Through my experience it seems like most people in this world like to make our lives harder. From the environments point of view this is also true, people should take care of the environment instead of constantly polluting it. If the human race carries on as it is now then a few generations down the line we will all be living in our own waste. I know this is a depressing way to look at the world but in many parts it is true.

Karma is what this whole world is about. We receive a reaction to every action. Most of our reactions (Karma) are coming from our previous liefs activities. That is how one can explain a baby being born sick or blind and poor, and another baby healthy and in a rich family. It is due to past life activities. One must understand Karma and Reincarnation to understand life at all. I recommend stephen-knapp.c site. Everything is there on this topic and Universal truths. It is very enlivening to know who we actually are beyond these bodies. If one does not understand how to live life not at the expense of others then they will only suffer. We have to stop this karma and that is the process of Bhakti Yoga. Which the main process is the chanting of the Maha Mantra which will free one form all illusion and suffering. I can give you the direct part of the website on the chanting the Maha Mantra if you write me.

Our way of life IS at the expense of others - & global warming will surely give us all a wake-up call at some point, if we're not starting to feel the effects of it already (mixed up seasons, polar ice cap, etc.). What goes round will surely come around, & it won't be a pleasant experience.

yes it is at the expense of others. but sadly there has to be rich as well as poor people. the best ways to alleviate this is to raise prices on materials (which raises income for people in other countries that make them) and lower taxes. to lower taxes however we must cut programs- many that we need. if we were to decrease illegal immigration the economy would improve and we could lower taxes, it's also good if we stop people who abuse the systems in place to help people (like in my dear home of chicago).
everything is made to one day be destructed. it's not mean to say what goes around comes around because it does- empires are built and then they destruct (normally self destruct). sadly we have done many things that were wrong- like the way we broke rules of warfare during vietnam and didn't get charged by the UN for it- with Iraq we may not get off as easily. we may actually have some consequences with other nations and that will lead to negitive reactions at home

yes, we live at the expense of others and the planet. for us to enjoy our way of life, others have to suffer. think of all the sweatshops and so on. those Nike shoes you want are made by some little kid who gets 1c for it and can't feed their family.
for there to be rich people in the world, there has to be poor people for them to be wealthier than. if no-one is rich, then no-one can be poor.
our lifestyles are those of abundance, luxury, gluttony and waste.
think about this: we grow grain crops of which more than 80% goes to livestock so we can get meat. if we didn't feed all this grain to livestock, we could feed the whole world. no-one would be hungry. but because of our extravagant lifestyles, people around the world go hungry.
things are catching up with us. because of all the devastation we have caused, the world is becoming hotter and less hospitable. because we use harmful chemicals to make our luxury items, geenhouse gases are flooding into the atmosphere. what right do we have to kill the planet which is everyone's to live on, just because we want to use plastic bags and drive cars?

Yes, I think you could be right! I think that we're ruining the environment and that it's going to have disastrous consequences on future generations! Also, there's a lot of selfish behaviour and I don't like that fact that society has become so materialistic and we're passing it on to our children by spoiling them rotten and giving them the message that it's more important to have 'things' than it is to value other human beings and wildlife. It's worrying. The best thing you can do, however is do your best by people and the environment and shower your children with love rather than material gifts and your generosity will come back to you in later years. I really believe that!
