No way! I live in the Northwest, so the solar feature would have to use to me (except for three months of the year.)
If the companies want to make solar cars, they'll need to reduce the size of the technology (less surface size) and give all of them electrical- or gasoline-operated backups, for when it's not sunny.
Batteries to store the energy for long periods of time would not be enough (these are usually found in current solar vehicles) since some areas don't get ample sun all times of the year.
A great idea, but the car companies would have to actually invest money, time, and labor into these cars. And as we all know, those the the big three (investing) enemies of business.

For $5000 more, the complete lack of gas would easily make up for it in operational costs. People will buy hybrids for that sticker increase, particularly for luxury cars that already cost an arm&leg.
The trick is always to get the solar car to perform similar or better to the gasoline car. My hybrid has noticeably more power than the gasoline model and is very clean for the environment, even though the savings in gas is generally modest at best.

There already are solar powered cars. They even have building competitions and country spanning races. There are also plenty of alternative fuel vehicles that are superior to solar at the present time. The popularity of the Toyota Prius is being matched by the political and financial clout of the oil and auto industries which have little interest in switching to alternative fuels. And, really, why should I switch to something less powerful, less convenient, and less reliable?

If I were in the market for a new car and could afford it, I'd love to have a car powered by alternative sources. I had the opportunity to ride in a hybrid vehicle shortly after moving to Washington state, and they make all kinds of sense!

I would probably wait for a year or so to see what problems the car has. Then, if it is working well, I would definitely buy it. We have to wean ourselves from our dependence on oil A solar-powered car would help the global warming problem, plus it would break our dependence on oil from the Middle East.

the solar powered car exists, however it is not possible to create one that can compete with modern cars at this moment in time.
If such a car exsisted then of course I would as not only would i be saving the environment (a bit it takes a lot of carbon to make a car) but I would also be saving money in the long run

I'd go solar in a heartbeat, screw Exxon and Mobil and Shell and Valero and especially Citgo, and Iran and Saudi Arabia and Venezuela and also screw the oil company execs with their $400 million retirement packages.

Gee wiz ... that area between my ears is heating up. in basic terms choose I had a image voltaic powered ideas to slot in there. particularly, the guy who suggested putting image voltaic panels on their roof or image voltaic shingles and quickly ... image voltaic abode windows ... has the final thought and then deliver electrical energy directly to the grid. do not count on your panels to value the motor vehicle, yet they'll decrease your electric powered bill as they deliver electrons to the ability business corporation. in case you motor vehicle pool and do notchronic today, you may nicely be waiting to sell the contents of the charged battery back to the ability business corporation at their well-known day costs in some places. Plug in hybrid autos or trucks could be waiting to do something that the different motor vehicle can do. this is not a gee wiz thought. in basic terms plug it into your abode outlet and fee it at nighttime while costs are lowest. Thenchronic 20-40 miles to artwork with out ever getting gasoline. if youchronic over the battery fee decrease, it immediately will start up using despite gasoline you have interior the tank. Tow a wagon, pull good bushes from the Earth, climb tall mountains, speedier than a ... nicely ... in basic terms like various different motor vehicle. Now all we would desire to do is get the motor vehicle businesses to cause them to at a cost we are in a position to have adequate money. Toyota and Chevy are as close as any super vehicle businesses to advertising one yet there are particularly some smaller businesses that would beat them to the punch. Now bypass tell your motor vehicle broking to get them.

I would have to wait until the cost was closer to that of a car I can buy now. Also, would it have a back up battery or some other means of using it when it is cloudy or night time?
If they invent it and it works and I can afford it...I would definately buy it!

I would absolutely get one right away! It might take a while to use $5,000 in gas but I'd also be helping the environment. I'd be there to buy the new car in a heartbeat.
