Put the detergent in before the clothes, a bit at a time, let the suds come up and then put in the clothes...be sure to rinse 2 times to be sure the soap is out...I've done this before and it worked OK.

Liquid dish soap will work just fine; be sure not to use a lot - maybe half the quantity that you would use of regular laundry detergent - because dishwashing liquids are designed to create more suds.

Don't use liquid dish soap. You will end up with out of control bubbles. They will fill the machine and you have to dish them out and keep running the machine to clear them away. What ever you use has to have a low sudsing action.

Well, yes and no. Technically, you should not use it in your washing machine because it makes too much suds and you washer will overflow with tons of suds

However, I have used it (a very small amount) mixed with a cup of table salt and the salt kept the suds down

Well when you get all the bubbles from using dish soap you can use salt to get rid of the suds

Yes. You will not believe all the suds that will come oozing out of your machine and all over your laundry room.
