For the older girl, get her a couple sketch books and some good quality drawing pencils and a kneadable eraser from an art supply store or the art department of a craft store. Add a watercolor tablet and a box of art quality watercolor pencils and 2 squirrel hair brushes,a liner brush and a filbert. She will know what to do with all of it and she will adore you for it. Put them into a pretty pink canvas tote bag....2 gifts in one! For the little one, a gift certificate to Build-a -Bear Workshop will probably get you a vote for best uncle....my 8 year old niece thinks this is the coolest place in the mall. It would be even better if you took her to cash it in.

I say stay away from the money. At that age, you don't want money you want bright cute gifts. For the girl that likes drawing, a nice grown up sketch book, maybe some drawing utensils, something she has never had - possibly pastels or something that is just different, or even coloring books.

For the more outgoing girl, it really can be anything. Maybe ask her mom if there is anything special she wants. You could get her a hair item - like one where it puts beads in your hair or braids it. Or some new board games, really you could go with just about anything there

Since the oldest like to draw buy her an art set-like the ones that comes w/ paint, watercolors, etc. Does the other watch Disney channel? because my 10 yr old cousin loves raven, the Cheetah girls, High School musical etc. So you could buy her one of those Cd's or the movie. You could do a gift card to KB toys or Toys R Us, that way each can buy what they want.

When My neice was 9, I got her a gift certificate to a Pottery place. And her and I went to the pottery place and painted our own pottery and them went and picked it up. She still has that little jewelery box. She really treasures it. If you live close enough to them, try to find something like that which you can do together. The gift of time is priceless.

Depending on how much money you are going to spend. I am getting my neice and nephew a pair of heely's. Zappo's has some really nice ones for about $60.00 each. You will be a big hit if they dont already have these.
