My antifreeze is full and there is no spraying or leaking that I can see but when my car is idling the temp gauge overheats. What could it be?

The vehicle is a 91 Chevy Cavalier Z24. How much would a new radiator fan cost?

COOLING FAN-check relay, sensor, fan motor itself. If the fan only comes on when you use a/c than its a sensor. The a/c bypasses the sensor when turned on. The sensor itself only allows the fan to work when your motor reaches a high temp. Other than that take to a shop and have them check the components. It shouldn't take too long to find out which one it is. If you have some tools and a light tester I can give you more detail to check for yourself. http://painintheexhaust.blogspot.com

Totally sounds like a stuck thermostat. That happens. When the car is idling, it's not getting enough RPMs, so the thermostat closes and sticks and the car heats up, cuz it's not getting water to the motor to cool it.

It's cheap to fix, and ez. 'specially on older cars.

Electric fan not working on radiator.

Could be:
1) Blown fuse
2) Faulty temperature sensor on the bottom of the radiator.
3) Disconnected fan pigtail.
4) Faulty fan.

You failed to mention what kind of car so my answer may not help what so ever.

Check the radiator fan...now if you get on the highway and it still overheats...then you have a stuck thermostat. Good luck.

sounds like u already think that its the fan. If so it could be the fan itself or a relay or the wiring to the fan. If the fan works then it needs a new thermostat.

There are two main things to check your thermostat and your water pump. replacing your thermostat is generally cheap and easy.
