To a degree you are correct, but what's important here is the individual's willingess to "try, try, again". Now that I'm retired early due to an accident on the job, I can look back and see just how many times in my life, way back into my youth, when I had the opportunity to do better, but chose the lazier way because I didn't want to put out the effort. I think it's hard for us to look back and see the opportunities we passed up simply because we didn't want to put out the effort, mentally, physically, emotionally, etc.. I know I'm not the only one that way, and you aren't either. It's easier to put the blame elsewhere than to accept the blame or responsibility for what we can and could have done, and did or didn't. Now that I'm physically handicapped, I can see where people who are kind to me "do for" me, but the ones who really care make me "do for" myself, even when I want someone else to accept the responsibility. My wife "does for" me, a lot, and it's great. My neighbor looks at me when I act "helpless" to one degree or another and has a scowl on his face and lets me know clearly that if I want something done, I'm gonna have to do for myself, and it's his love that has made me so much more capable, and now I laugh and say "just because I'm disabled doesn't mean I'm crippled", and I amaze many-a-folk at what a one-legged guy can do after he got run over by a train. And I laugh at my yankee friends who caused the accident and where it happened and say, "It takes a whole lot more than a train to stop a Texan!" We know it ain't about being a Texan. It's about accepting the responsibility, and then, if you work hard enough, you CAN AND WILL succeed, even if your goals aren't as "high-and-mighty" as they might once have been. "Keep a stiff upper lip", and don't let the atrophy of the world slow you down. In the end, you're the only one who can make-or-break you! Never forget that! God Bless you.

True, there are many factors that can and will work against you. However, if your passion is strong and you are willing to work hard for it you can accomplish anything. Stop feeling sorry for yourself. Nothing in life is fair nor simple.

This used to be true. When hard work and experience counted for something. Now a college degree is what will make the difference. I know many people that work very hard at places like Walmart and Tyson but go nowhere.

Yes you are right. It takes hard work, faith, good luck, opportunity and you have to be in a field that is suited to your talents. However, success comes a lot more often to those who work hard than it does to those who don't.

The only thing they can't tax is your dreams.
PS Have you ever read "Death of a Salesman"? Great book.

Because if you try, you might or might not succeed, but if you don't try, you're never gonna succeed.

Because that's the way that it used to be, now it's a little bit of what you know and who you know.
