Why not unpaid administrative leave? Now grant it that it is usually done during a pending investigation of the person, but ultimately, despite that, isn’t it really in effect the same as a mini vacation? Plus, what if the person is guilty? It is not like they take back those free checks they gave the person - and it rarely results in the person getting fired.

So, instead, they say the person “can’t come to work” as if it is a punishment or something, (well, who wants to come to work anyways)? So, they make the employee stay home and just collect checks? Is it me, or is this concept strange to you? Or am I misunderstanding how this works? If so, please enlighten me, and if I am not, then do you agree with this procedure?

I believe the law says that until you can prove wrong doing, you have to pay the person. They usually put them on paid administration because for some reason or another they don't want the person around just in case the accusation is true. Such as child abuse in the school, if there is any doubt that the adult,(teacher) did it they don't want him/her near the children. Hope this tells you something you wanted to know.

The problem you have is taking a minimum wage and expecting to be a living wage. Huge problem here Mr. Wizard. Living wages come "if" you don't drop out of school and get some college. Barely able to read and write and any sort of math is out of the question will earn you $8 hr. Sorry no home purchasing, boat buying, ski trips and golfing with Obama in the Hamptons for you until you realize that. Barney Frank, Chris Dodd with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac already pulled that crap and it economically imploded America.

I think it means a cooling period! I knew this guy who got into trouble at work. I thought he was gonna be fired, but they gave him a week off for the same thing.

I think it really depends on if the person did something really bad-but it can be an excuse for then wanting the person to quit rather than then firing them. most employers pull this crap because they don't want to pay unemployment benefits.

If it happened to me, I would just find another job & move on!!
