I just mean euthanasia in general. Animals and humans.

I believe we should be able to die with dignity. While there are obvious needs for safeguards and protocols to protect the innocent from predators, if someone is terminally ill and no longer considers their quality of life to be sufficient to continue, then they should be allowed to request medications to end their life.

I have watched relatives die of cancer; no-one deserves to be forced to go through that process unwillingly. Those that want to should get all the support they need; those that choose to die early should be given the means to do so.

Do you mean euthanasia of humans?

I think euthanasia of humans and animals should be an option when there is poor quality of life and/or no hope for a cure. Certainly not for those wanting to just die, like assisted suicide, but particularly for the aged and terminally ill it should be available.

I have been a hospice nurse. Unless you have had a parent or very close person struggle with end of life issues and you actively participate in it as the person carrying out the wishes of the ill person, it may be very difficult to imagine. People are not euthanized, so to speak, but there is a complex protocol that is administered so that the person dying is fully supported and kept as comfortable as possible. Any and all comfort measures that one can imagine are implimented. My father passed away in 2005 of lung cancer and he was the captain of the ship all the way and we supported him as was his wish.
