Th earliest form of writing so far found comes from Sumeria (modern south Iraq), dating to around 3500 BC. The earliest Egyptian writing know dates to slightly later - about 3300 BC. There is evidence that there was contact between Sumeria and Egypt before this (back to around 4000 BC), so Sumerian may have influenced Egyptian, but the two styles are so different that historians are undecided whether hieroglyphs were developed from Sumerian or were created seperately.

Samarian cunieform is completely different from Egyptian. The Egyptians worshipped many Gods that they created so the symbols they use represent the Dieties they created. Such as the Eye of Horus.
If you read the book of Revelation you will notice frogs and snakes as symbols of Satan. The High Priest of Amun in Egyptian Mythology had two aspects - male and female - frog and snake.
