I have the 6cyl engine. The car will run and have good heat then go cold and overheat. We replaced the thermostat and radiator cap. The cooling system has lots of pressure. It seems as though it just gets overpressured and comes out. Could it possibly be the waterpump? Head gasket....but fluid all looks good? An obstruction maybe? Just need Burperd/Bled? Any other ideas or suggestions?

OK, replaced waterpump because coolant was not circulating. Hoses all look good. Flushed the system. Still getting too much pressure. Before I replace the head gaskets, any other possible thing it could be?

Head gasket. The combustion chamber is pushing air pressure into the cooling system...may also be a cracked head. Hard to say without pulling the head off. Definitely something up top though. Good luck.

I am not sure which v6 they put in the contour. Make sure the water pump belt is ok. Here is what makes the difference in the v6. Some have the water pump on the driver's side of the vehicle that is driven by a small belt. These belts tend to break because no one ever checks them (and they are under a plastic cover). If the water pump is not there and it is on the passenger side, I would have a mechanic check the coolant for signs of combustion gases.

My guess.......blown head gasket allowing exhaust gasses to vent into the cooling system, pressurizing the cooling system, and pushing the coolant out.

That's a strange problem. You might check your radiator hose's. They may be collapsing. Check them by squeezing them, also check the smaller heater hoses.
