Hi, Weird it sounds like ur talking about me! Except i dnt have a gf! lol. Anyway to more serious matters.

Im 21 and also noticing hair thinning on top of my head. Before thinking OMG this is the end, its not. Hair loss can be temporary! First find the reason for why he might be losing hair, make an appointment with ur doc (dnt know technical name)

With his advice in mind (because it could be stress or some traumatic experience that is causeing this temporaryly) you can use these things as follows.

Essential Oils (Aromotherapy) - There are a wide variety you bf/friend can use to STOP hair loss at the stage it is now. Also Great chances of hair growing back aswell. You need to research on this, as they are expensive oils.

Mustard Oil - This is used in India to fight hair loss and keep healthy hair. Frequent rubbing in for 10-20 mins each night before bed is great. This will also give hair a great healthy look!

Jojoba Oil - This can be mixed with Mustard oil to add to the effect. Its also a very effective way to combat hair loss and keep healthy hair.

Nutrition - Eat fruits vegtables and keep a balanced deit. Also might help doing a minerals test on him to see if hes copper deficient. Too much copper in the body causes hair loss, and too little copper also causes hair loss.

Exercise - Working out 3 times a week will really help him to relax and get healthy overall, and this will affect hair growth.

Antioxidants - Get a list of all types of anti oxidants and buy supplements for this. These days nobody focuses on healthy eating and getting the right minerals and vitamins in the body. Why do you think most males get bold, and its actually being called a genetic problem!! When its actually a problem that involves our eating habbits among other things!

Smokeing - Stop it!

lastly but not least, RELAX! Enjoy Life! Worst thing you can do is get stressed, as stress can further cause hairloss. So maybe go on a holiday or if you cant afford to straight away, make your own space and time, where you will only relax and forget the everyday problems of life.

Oh yeah one more issue. Many shampoos contain chemicals such as sulphate. Head and shoulders is one of them. STOP USING THEM! Get a herbal shampoo which has minimal chemicals. After all, in nature, we werent designed to use chemicals to clean ourselves! only makes sense , right?

I am doing all the above even though i have a very SLIGHT thinning of the hair. I just have freak out. But i think being positive is important.

Myths such as baseball caps cause hair loss are not true. But i will let you to deciede on that. I have tried my best to explain this since i know how terrible it can feel for him to go through this. I wish him best of luck, everything should be okay. You just have to keep trying with a smile!! :)

I can go on all day about this. There are no products that will help you get back all the hair you've lost. I'm assuming you are in good health with no thyroid/hormone problems, and that you are not stressful (more than "normal"). Minoxidil (Rogaine), etc.. only delays the hair loss, although for some people some hair may grow back, but that is only if you use it consistently as instructs (daily), and it is very troublesome, it would have to become a daily chore like brushing your teeth. The best option (in my honest opinion) is to get a hair transplant, since it is very effective in treating receding hair, although this option may be drastic... who cares right? Men care about appearance and hair as much as women. If you can't afford it, you should go to a dermatologist for prescription medication that will prevent or slow down that hair loss. You can do this until you have a steady flow of income so you can get the transplant if you want... which is pretty much the only sure shot way to fill in the receding hairline, and although hair transplant are not without the risks, many men take the chance with the operation.

For hair loss, meet a dermatologist. Determine why you have hair loss. Is it stress? Hormonal problems? You can also go to a reputed salon and ask for treatment. There are shots like Aminexel, by L'Oreal, which is a 40-day course.
Use shampoos specially designed to stop hair fall, like Phytobiogion by Schwarzkopf or a thickening shampoo by TIGI.Wish the best for you..

Usually, that's too long for me. I believe it depends on the guy and his face though. Certain guys can pull off long hair and other people can't.

Tell him to stop wearing that baseball cap all the time... The cap prevents his hair from "breathing" and retains all the oils, especially if he wears the same cap over and over again without cleaning it... I mean.. geez.. you put on clean underwear every day!

Also he might want to try Rogaine

BTW.. I am a twin and rarely wore a baseball cap growing up... My twin always wore one... I still have a full head of hair... He is bald except on the sides and partial back...

no real remedies except hair transplantation from a strip of his own scalp off the back of his head and the surgeon prepares it by separating the hair follicles and roots

As I understand it most men go bald due to a high amount of testosterone so the only real treatment is medication that reduces the testosterone or increases the oestrogen. the problem with that is it reduces the sex drive somewhat
