Portugal and Ghana. Portugal was pretty amazing and they made it to 4th place and they beat England! {i'm very sorry, English fans!}. And Ghana did brilliantly playing Brazil. I am a fan of Brazil and at first I thought it was an easy win, but then I got a bit scared after Ghana's performance. Brazil may have won, but Ghana was GREAT! and will definitly succeed.

TRINIDAD. I'm not just saying this because I'm trinidadian. Truth is, I had little faith that they would even win or tie one game, there just weren't up to par with the teams in their group. But yet...they still gave a hell of the fight and our small little island, never been in the WC before gave England and other teams a run for their money.
And i totally, completely agree with you about the ghana and brasil thing. this was one of my biggest things after the world cup. I am a huge Brasil fan...to the point that if they were playing against Trinidad. i would find it hard to root for trinidad. but...when they played against Ghana i found myself rooting for Ghana...they were so good and it was unexpected and the brazilians were playing fairly well but not particularly brazilian style. personally, i would have liked Ghana to win...they only lost because of stupid offsides mistakes. I think Ghana was the better team in that game...particularly because they were so good despite playing against their "heroes" and still giving it their all. I hope they get into the next WC because i want to see them play again.
I kind of expected Portugal to do well...after all they had Scolari who had won the previous world cup...plus C. Ronaldo, Deco and many other fairly good players.

australia. in my opinion, australia did better than ghana, because ghana lost to brazil 3-0 while australia lost to brazil 2-0. and also ghana lost to italy 2-0 while australia could have defeated italy, but lost 1-0, because of the last minute penalty kick.
australia had a friendly game with ghana this month. australia scored first, but ghana scored at the second half when the aussie gk made a mistake. the result was 1-1.

I knew Portugal would fair very well, the have a great coach in Scolari, but I had not initially picked them to be in the top four, so well done for the effort.
Ghana were so inspiring. Every one thought they would be a walk over and they put up a huge fight. Self belief and true spirit. I was really touched by Ghana
And of course my Australian boys, who made their nation stop en masse and honored us with their performance. We are certainly not known as heavy weights within the sport, but you would not have known that if you were in Australia...lol.

Come on people.. Portugal of course were gonna go far...they're one of the strongest teams in the world.......the one I thought did surprisingly well were Ghana and Australia......also Ukraine weren't so bad.

I wasn't surprised by Portugal: I expected them to be very good. Ghana was also a team expected to play well.
The most surprising to me were Angola and Trinidad Tobago. Neither was expected to even fight a single match, and both proved to be very tough to defeat.
