Actually, early January is still quite busy with New Year's and the Marathon. Also, right after New Year's Walt Disney World goes into the Value Season. Rates drop and so a lot of people try and take advantage of that. Plus, I'm sure this entire year is going to be especially busy thanks to the well-advertised "Year of a Million Dreams Celebration." And everyone wants to see the new attractions - Expedition Everest, the Seas with Nemo & Friends, Finding Nemo the Musical, the Laugh Floor Comedy Club, etc.

Sad news and the answer why - Walt Disney World Resort once covered a total of 47 square miles (122 square kilometers) or 30,000 acres, about the size of San Francisco or twice the size of Manhattan. While not widely reported, today that figure has been reduced by about a quarter as property has been sold off for housing developments and other purposes. While less than half the original property designated Walt Disney World has been developed, the reality is that due to habitat/environmental preservation requirements and land sales, only about 2,000 acres of Walt Disney World remain open for development.

It's because of the Walt Disney World Marathon, which is bringing thousands of runners between January 4-7. Lots of them are coming early and staying late.

there are lots of reasons -- winter season is winding down but not over -- the late bird gets discounts. the united states dollar isn't doing too great against european money so its cheap for them to come over. disney hotels have not done any significant expansion to keep up with increasing demand. in the past they built like crazy. they have been taking it easy for the last few years. disney prices are more competitive with other local hotels now too -- if you stay off property you will only save a few bucks.

january is peak season for conventions and conferences. one person pointed out the marathon and there are others in the orange country convention center. http://www.occc.net/global/calendar/
while the parks will be smaller lines, the hotels will be at a premium!
while i'm not a fan of saying this.... try your luck on the internet. they generally pre-purchase a few rooms a night at the majority of the hotels and you can sometimes get lucky!!!

each and all the Walt Disney worldwide motel inns furnish loose transportation throughout the time of the motel. reckoning on the point (fee, average, Deluxe) and placement, there will be distinctive varieties of transportation (maximum normally busses, yet in addition water taxis, monorails, or maybe strolling paths). So, each and all the inns are "handy" for the reason that there is loose transportation everywhere. although, i'd say that the "maximum handy" inns would be the Epcot motel section inns (Boardwalk lodge/Villas, Yacht club, sea coast club/Villas, Swan/Dolphin) because of the fact they are all interior of strolling distance of Epcot (actually some steps out of your room), interior of strolling distance (15 minutes) or water taxi of Hollywood Studios, and centrally located in the motel so bus rides to very nearly everywhere else (Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Downtown Disney, water parks, etc.) will all be 15 minutes or much less. in case you plan to spend maximum of a while at Magic Kingdom, then decide for the two modern-day, Polynesian, or Grand Floridian because of the fact the monorail stops at those inns and would take you to Magic Kingdom (2-10 minutes reckoning on lodge) or to the TTC the place you may get a monorail to Epcot.

Travel in general has increased big time this year. I already have 15 or more cabins booked on Alaska cruises for Sept.....Disney for Nov of 07....all summer long..
The opinion of my industry is...
People are sick of war. Sick of worrying about the stockmarket and terrorists. They want to travel again.
Call your travel agent. They might be able to get you what Disney can not get directly. Sometimes our tour operators have blocked space.

I believe Elvis Presley's reflected image was seen in one of Mickey's ears, that is scattered throughout the parks.
It only appears during the month of January, so I'm sure everybody wants to get "their own" glimpse of The King....
