funny you ask that, i've just been on a race equality course today. Before it use to be worst, it was white, black or other. You can always raise that matter to your governement because this kind of form are review every 3 years. If you do feel the need to justify your background more specifiquely you can always put it too. I do think that more people should raise that kind of issue because the main reason of why they want to know we coming from is to be able to provide service in the community and to be aware of the need that people might have because of their background. other question you can ask yourself is why they assuming that the british are all white! you can be british and back but british is in the white category! yes the form is really badly done!

It maybe that the term White Irish is providing an ethnicity category for Irish Travellers (sometimes referred to as gypsies which refers to a another distinct ethnic group). Forms produced in Northern Ireland have separate White and Irish Traveller categories allowing Travellers to identify themselves with their chosen Ethnicity.
Having said that its a blurry line between Traveller and White - even more so when u categorise White Irish and White British

They have actually changed it recenetly but a lot of placed haven't caught on yet. You get white british, white irish, whiste scottish, white european, white cornish and a ton of other I can't remember (white american?) - including white other.
i think its just cos here in the UK they made additions gradually for the other ethnicities as they became part of the UK and then forgot about the white groups. Years ago an ehtnicity form juts used to say White/Black/Asian and Other. That was it!!

I doubt many in Britain or perhaps no longer many in eire consciously save in ideas yet in case you save on with and believe the protestant's religions or the British Episcopalian or the present Catholic because the days of St Patrick replacing the :Heathens then you are white british if you're actually one of those heathens that still respect the early Druid/Celtic/Christine (be conscious the spelling) Honoring of the residing god that is residing in each and every atom of our universe and works to make this international extra useful for those you share it with truly of racing for the graveyard end of attempt different international reward then you are surely White Irish and that i dont care what you do about the British aspect LOLOL yet you truly might want to set your spell examine to remind you to continually capitalize the be conscious Irish .................. grin

That's really weird. I've never seen anything more specific than just "White" or "Caucasian."
So, I really have no idea. My guess would be that the British or Irish part might refer to the person's nationality rather than ethnicity.
