They basicaly destroyed the communist party. Right before an election in 1933 a dutch communist burned the Riechstag. The Nazis used this as an excuse to arrest the leaders of the communist party, and thus they were not able to attend a vote for the enabling act that basicaly gave Hitler absolute power. Hitler then proceded to not allow any communists to meet or basicaly try to forward their cause. After this Hitler began preparing Germany for war and consolidating his power.
