Gold-filled refers to a meterial on which a layer of gold has been bonded by fusing.

A standard practice is to clad the base metal with 10% (weight) 12k gold. Since 12k gold is half pure it means the final result, if it were melted down and assayed, would equal 1/20 or 5% pure gold.

The 1/20 is probably a date signifying something special. The 12GF is 12 carat gold filled. Your ring is not worth much more than sentimental value.
