Try using CLR. It stands for Calcium, Lime and Rust. It removes calcium and Lime deposits in shower heads; and cleans rust stains from bathroom fixtures.

In response to the answer about "Bar Keepers Friend". It is an excellent product, but be advised it has oxalic acid in it. It is a mild acid but use old clothes when using it or wear wool. If you get it on cotton, the next few times you wash your clothes, you will see holes develop in them. It will also eat holes in your cleaning rag.
But, the stuff does work.

CLR is great if it's porcelain.. it might take several tries if it's badly stained, though.
