Do you think that racism comes in fads? For example, prior to Hitler's Nazi reign, there was a Western anti-semitic mood & now there is an anti-Mexican feel & most people don't really know why they dislike these people! These are just a few examples. You can answer with your own examples of racist 'fads' & your opinion on the subject.

I KNOW what racism is & all the rest, but maybe I stated my question inappropriately, but "Do you think racism sparks from popular opinion? Such as 'everyone is saying this so it must be true & I should fit in with this crowd'?

There IS a fad-like quality over "who to hate today" isn't there?

Those in power like to keep the powerless busy hating the other powerless, so they get to walk off with all the goodies.

And a lot of people go along, and hate whoever they're told to hate.

Right now, we have two competing groups: Mexicans and Middle-Easterners.

Remember, them Muslims call God by a different name, so they MUST be evil!

;-)

It's always the same thing: THEY are dangerous, can't be trusted, are out to kill us all or take our country away.

And it's all hogwash.

The difference with fads is they are simply a silly waste of money: Racism kills.

You know I am not trying to be a you know what here but if you look at it all people have some form of racism. I love all kinds of people. But, I am quit fed up with the whole racisim thing. You have to African Americans claiming that whiles are racists everytime you turn around. And yes whites can be racist. You have to mexicans wanting to come here illeagaly. I am not against anyone coming here as long as its legal. And please no one take this the wrong way. I am white and if I try to claim racism I would get laughed at!! I wish that everyone here would just chill out. We are trying to fit everyones race into one thing to be fair but its never going to happen. Someone will always feel left out. Blacks can be racist they aren't always the victims as they claim. Mexicans can be racist, they are always the victims as they claim. And the poor white folk are always the ones being accused of it. Look at the accuser, and what they are being accused of. Someone claims racisim when the channel they are watching on TV isn't in Spanish. Okay well then can I complain that the radio station I turned to wasn't in English? Or the black man claims racism when he can't have a channel on TV just for black people. Well what would happen if the white man called racism because of the BET network on TV? YOu all know we would be raceist. See what I mean you can' t please everyone. SO no I don't think there is a fad. I think there is a problem. But no one can fix it. Like I said I dont judge people of their color but I Know there are peolple who do. I don't think there is ever going to be a way to fix it. Just try to love and respect everyone!

I think there is this perception that Black people can say the "N" word in any circumstance without consequence. This is not true. First of all people are free to say whatever they want. They is no law against saying words. However people are not free from the consequences of saying those words in certain situations. On private property there can be consequences for saying words deemed offensive. Also in private conversations non Black people use the "N" word all the time. They can't say that they don't. I think what people that have a problem with is they think Black people are getting the benefit of doing something that they can't because they are not Black. They perceive this as being racist and a double standard. It's really quite ridiculous. In fact it's idiotic and very small minded. Some people get bent out of shape over this. Words escape me in describing the level of bewilderment I feel trying to rap my head around what it is these people are truly upset and complaining about. It's like one of those "Aww! Give me a break!" or "You have got be kidding right?" moments. All I can say is in this world there are all kinds...

Sure it's sparked with fads.

Like today.......Mexicans are getting the brunt of the bashing because of this stupid Immigration War.

18 months ago NOBODY was talking about Immigration.

As soon as the Republican Right started on the Immigration bandwagon, everyone's anti-Mexican.

STOP THE INSANITY
TEAR THE WALL DOWN

I I think racism is just a form of fear. When people are more fearful of others who look different than them and have different cultures, you can expect more racism. You see this in the US in response to large scale Mexican immigration and you see it in many parts of Europe in response to large scale immigration from North Africa. People see their societies changing around them, they see newcomers who look different, they're afraid of those changes, they aren't familiar with the customs of the newcomers, so they react with fear and racism. It'll pass as Latinos become more assimilated and as the older generation is replaced by younger people who are more comfortable with racial diversity.

i dont think it is a fad, as much as based on someone's personality. I have friends who love all cultures and races, then some who dont. really, like i said, i think it is a basis of personality.
