There are viruses and spyware for macs but not as many as for pc's. The reason is first that around 80% of population is currently using Windows and the other one is that MAC Os is harder to hack then windows.
Look here for antivirus and antispyware solutions for mac version...

Not quite. There are a few viruses (virii?) that will attack a Mac, but not many. As I recall, there are less than a dozen right now, but you can expect that number to grow with time.
Also, there are plenty of ways that a naughty webpage can attack your system which *might* work on the Mac.

So, in short, you're probably safer on a Mac, but not totally safe, so you still have to be careful and use caution.

There most certainly ARE viruses and spyware that target the MacOS. Not nearly as many as for Windows, but they're out there! As the platform grows, so will the risk.

A cursory search of securityfocus.com reveals that the latest version of Mac OS X (10.4.8) has 6 security vulnerabilities, compared to about 140 for Windows XP SP2. Mac OS is more secure *NOW*, but that might not last forever; more people out there are looking for Windows vulnerabilities than Mac OS because more people are using Windows.

You MUST get antivirus software.

Any computer that is connected to the outside world (any computer, cell phone, ipod, etc.) is suceptable to virus, trojan, OS and web browser exploits.

1. Keep your system updated (patches)
2. Install antivirus software
3. Change all default passwords (using strong passwords)
4. Stay informed (http://www.macvirus.org/) on your specific computing environment
