If you don't have a lot of money to invest all at once I strongly recommend sharebuilder.com. You can set it up to automatically invest a small amount, or you can set up a trade ahead of time to take place on a tuesday for only $4 w/out a subscription. They have no minimums, so you can invest $2 or $200 for the same $4 price tag.
