What is lacking at the public schools in your area?
Is there something new or helpful that you could bring to the table?

i live in south florida too, and while you might be correct about teachers not knowing much about neurological disorders, I have been listening to the school board meetings on NPR and I can say that Florida has bigger problems.
Until salaries are raised, no thinking person will take a job as a public educator down here.
Secondly, all the parents who have great resources at their disposal are hiding their children in "safe" private schools where they are more strongly rewarded for average performance.
In other words, the upper crust is getting stupid (and more egotistical about it). Meanwhile, there are some really gifted kids that will never see real opportunity because their public school just doesn't have it.
Of course, this is just an opinion but, I think, an educated one.

There are so many things that are lacking in the schools I work in. One program that I personally could offer would be TESL certification. If students were able to take a TESL certificate course during their elective blocks they could end the semester with an internationally-recognized certificate that would open doors to employment and help them better understand their own language. I would love to teach TESL to students considering a career in teaching.

In South Florida public schools there is no room for students with special needs (Let alone room for any student at all). If your child needs extra attention, he/she may be grouped with other students that have disabilities completely different and need help in different ways. Also, if you want your child to remain in classes with the rest of the students, there are many teachers who are unaware of most neurological disorders and are completely clueless on how to treat a student who has one (no matter how slight or severe the disorder may be). Since there is no room to make separate programs for these students and many of them do not want to be secluded from their fellow classmates, it would be best to educate teachers and make them more aware of neurological disorders.

Character education and personal/social/work etiquette!

Both are lacking in public schools these days.
