If it was a hate crime and they did it because he was black it would be racism. If you just assume it was racism, this world wouldn't be in too good of a shape. I would need more information. Like their motives or how they did it. But to assume I wouldn't call it racism. But if it was two whitem men killing a black men, most people would go straight to racism. Maybe even me. Thats how messed up this world is. After slavery and oppression and segregation, whenever we hear of white people killing a minority we go straight to racism. Sad but true. To jessica whose husband is a cop. How fair is it that it is considered a hate crime? Where are the convicted's rights? I don't think hate crimes should get a heftier punishment. Its like they robbed and killed him and the judge says life in prison. Then some evidence says that it was racial so they get the death penalty instead. Murder is murder. No one should just assume that its a hate crime because the races are different. If this is true, America still has some legal problems they need to address.

I'm unsure what you're upset about. I saw this when it first occurred--but then I get my news on the internet. The media may not have reported extensively on this for a number reasons--maybe it just wasn't a slow enough news day for something like this to make headlines. Meaning there could have been more pressing stories to make the headlines. I don't recall what happened around that time, but wasn't this around the same time that we had our first woman speaker of the house sworn in? I remember that being a big January headline. As to this being considered a "hate crime"--I'm not sure I could agree. From my information, that would mean these criminals hated the make and model of the vehicle they had targeted for the carjacking, and I hardly think that was the case--in fact, the opposite was most likely true--they admired the vehicle. I'm fairly certain you're talking about Imus getting fired here, which is truly throwing a bunch more stuff into this wild mix you've got going on, but I hardly think a repeated history of making racist/sexist statements on the air, for which one has to apologize for repeatedly, could hardly be compared to rape and murder. As in: "If blacks can rape and murder a white person and end up in prison for it, then Imus should be able to say as many racist and sexist things he wants to and get away with it." Sorry, but that doesn't make sense to me. If you behave badly, you have to face the consequences for it. If you keep repeating that pattern of behavior, then the consequences should become more severe. Of course, that's just my opinion on it.

depends on the details, whether racism played a part or not. I am white, if two black men attacked me and in self defense I killed them both, its not racism. I would have to defend myself be it black or white. Not all is racism.
So, it dependson the facts of the case as to whether its racism or not. Maybe that one white man was really meal and trying to harm them? Would they have a right to defend themselves? Yes. no matter what any of their colors are. PPl are so quick to yell descrimination, and it is not always that.
There are good and bad in every race. some whites are predudiced and some blacks are too, but not all.
Only the facts of the case, decide if it is racism or not. so we hve no way or knowing, without more facts.

Totally depends on the circumstances. Although there is alot of racism murder, thats not true in all cases. There was a case of road rage in my area & the guy who stabbed the other one just had a bad temper & he'll be dealing with that behind bars for the next 15 years.

If everyone uses the race card when one person violates another of a different race, then we will never make progress as a society. Did you ever think that maybe these men did it? If two innocent white men, or hispanic, or arab men killed this man, would it be racism, or coincidence. I'm sick of everyone pulling out the race card when it is convenient.

Some may call it that, I think of it as just plain murder!
It could have been 2 white guys who killed a African man. Murder is murder, no matter who in what race killed or were killed.
Im not racist, I see everyone as a whole, we are all Americans, I have nothing agianst Ethnic People.

It is racism...Its also a hate crime, which comes with a heftier penalty. No matter if it was meant that way or not, that's how it will be taken. If two Whites were to kill a black, or 2 Blacks killing a Hispanic, or 2 Hispanics killing an Indian, its all the same. It doesn't matter if the 2 blacks meant to kill the white guy, or if it was over race or it was accidental. They killed a white man and its a hate crime. This comes from my husband, who is a cop, and deals with this.
