There is a problem in how you have asked your question. Do you mean what used to be called "forest fires" and are now usually referred to as "wildland fires"? It is hard to say what constitutes a forest, and many fires burn all sorts of places from deserts to high mountains. Additionally, some fires are "control burns" designed to lower fire hazard or to enhance habitat. No one entity is in charge of all fires. Also, by us I assume you mean the US?

If indeed you mean wildland fires in the US, you are in luck. The National Interagency Fire Information Center (NIFC) keeps records. Their web site is listed below. There is a link to "statistics" on the page. You can do the addition. By the way, 2006 marked the largest acreage burned since records have been kept. Also, the answer given by a person above is WAY low!
