I am using Northon and as spy sweeper
I use ad-aware se personal. The ad-aware finds the virus and infections and then I delete them by going in to save mode on the computer because then they are not in use any more.

Ultimately the solution to Windows being infected/hijacked by viruses, spyware, malware and adware etc is to change your operating system to Linux. Linux is immune to all these nasties, and is an industrial-strength operating system which is easy and fun to use.

I know it's a bit of a drastic solution, but it really is the answer for many people.

Here's a great easy-to-read (not geeky!) Acrobat PDF document about Linux to have a look at. It's only about 500k - quite quick to download:

Go to http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/ActiveScan.htm and use the scanner to scan your PC for virii. On completion it will you a list of infected file. You can delete those files yourself if you know that you are not deleting system files or rescan and disinfect those files using the scanner you have installed on your computer.

If antivirus and spyware remover software does not work, you can try to restore the computer to an older working configuration. Detailed instructions are posted at http://fixit.in/systemrestore.html
