Is the Nintendo DS Lite Chat feature safe for children? Is there some type of monitoring feature so we can see who they are chatting with?

Don't they have to be within 60 ft? I hope so my 5 year old has a DS Lite and he uses the chat to freehand draw sometimes.

the person they are talking to has to be within 30-50 feet in order to be able to go into the same room
perhaps something that you could do, just in case, is get all excited as if you think someone is talking to them
why?
so that if and when it does happen that a stranger is somehow talking to your child, your kid will get all excited about it, and will run right to you to show you
