My two month old baby has had some eye leakage for about 2 weeks..it is kind of crusty when he wakes up and needs to be wiped off a lot. I asked the doctor over the phone what to do..he said to wipe it with pre-boiled water on a cotton pad as needed..and is most likely a tear-duct blockage..and to call him back if the white of the eye turns pink. I am just wondering if anyone else has dealt with this and has any suggestions because it just isn't going away!

Considering that your baby is still young, it is more than likely a clogged tear duct. This is common in babies as their tear ducts mature more once they are outside of the womb. It happens with most babies.

It can take a few weeks to a few months to clear up.

Clean off the eye whenever you see gunk building up and be sure not to use the same clothe on both eyes. Use with breast milk or just warm water.

My baby had about 3-4 weeks of tear duct blockage. Same as you described. Then it started going away. I just kept wiping away the junk. It doesn't hurt to have it checked out, but your doc is right if the white turns pink, it's time to take baby in for a checkup ASAP.

Add a little salt to the water when it has boiled then let it cool down and wipe the eyes. It sounds like he has conjunctivitis. This has always worked for me and was recommended by my doctor.

Could be anything, allergies, infection etc. It is weird that the eyes are white, that means they aren't irritated.

Are you breastfeeding? Use breastmilk to clean the eyes and it will clear up pretty much any bacterial, viral or fungal.

If you are concerned I would either go to the doctor or call the public health nurse.

It sounds like conjuctavitis to me. It normally clears up on it's own, but any concerns you have with a baby that age you should go to the doctor. That is what they are there for.

Yes, my daughter had this too, our Dr. had us massage the corner of her eye in circles gently during every diaper change and it cleared up in a couple days.

do you have animals? Maybe an allergic reaction. I would only wait a few days after calling the dr with no positive progress before taking him in.
