If you pay attention to the people they present, you will always see a heavy unattractive guy with a thin attractive woman. Why do they do that, that doesn't reflect real life. Is it because the networks are primarily owned by males and they want to make men think that if they're fat and lazy and stupid it doesn't matter, they'll still get the girl?

like that show about the UPS guy and his cute little wife

I think it plays on our fantasies.

Men's fantasies, a cute little wife who is perky and good in bed.

Women's fantasies, a kind reliable hard working man with no other better options.

It's merely a tactic used to sell a product, concept, and/or program to men. Think about it: beer--not the best tasting drink in the world, can have pretty bad effects on the ol' gut, and when heavily consumed, it can turn a nice guy into a world class jerk. But if you notice, when viewing a beer commercial, the exact opposite is seen. In most beer commercials you'll have both attractive and unattractive men, surrounded by overly-hot women, having a good and civil time in some overly-cool club. It's all a part of the typical male fantasy!

Sounds like "According to Jim", "King of Queens", "Still Standing", and Lord knows what else!
I don't know why...it's "eye candy" for the guys I suppose. They probably realised that it doesn't take a "hot male" to attract the ladies to the sitcoms.
BUT...how many times have you seen a good-looking girl with a homely guy in public? I actually see that frequently. More so than the other way around.

I agree with you. TV is NOT anything like the real world except that UGLY men love and try for beautiful women. They sometimes get them with their 6 figure incomes. Myself, I'd rather be poor than with an ugly man. Gotta wake up and look at that kisser next to me, ya know? Besides, FAT, LAZY AND STUPID is no way to go through life. :>)

I haven't found what you are saying to be true at all. Are you referring to a particular show or commercial?

I don't notice this at all.

On My Wife and Kids...the Dad is hotter and in better shape than mom.

In real life....husbands and wives are all different shapes and sizes. Marriage depends on two people loving each other for who they are inside, not outside. So, it shouldnt' matter what hte sitcoms portray. My hubby is bigger than me, a little overweight with a beer belly....but hey, who cares? Reality says that men and women aren't perfect...so why should tv not reflect that?

Because it is fantasy. Men want to be able to say they have a beautiful thin woman. But in reality a women can be sexy no matter if she is overweight. I agree that in a male dominated society they voice and produce what they want to see. It is really a shame that they can be so shallow and unrealistic.

You are incredibly stupid!!! I include those people that bothered to answer your question.
Watch the shows you are talking about and look for the unmitigated, nauseous, portrayal of Middle American, parochial, Christian ideals!

Just goes to show you how stupid Christians, Jews, and Muslims are!!!

Now just imagine the stupidity required to believe in Scientology!!!!!

All of this is incredible to anyone with an IQ over 110 (for reference..An IQ of 110 is somewhat equal to the mental abilities of a very smart gorilla!)

Well, that's just TV. It doesn't happen in real life. Believe me, if it did, my chemistry teacher would have a supermodel for a girlfriend.
