In the news about the man who died from poisioning, I keep coming across the fact that he was ex-spy turned kremlin critic. What is that?

The Kremlin was the center of Russian government under the Tsars and is now the center of Russia's democratic government (however it was not used during the Soviet Union era). The man you are talking about was once a KGB member, then, after the downfall, would then become a "Kremlin Critic" or someone who would oppose and criticize the new, democratic government of Russia.

Its just what it appears to be. He was a spy....now he is a critic of the Kremlin.
