Since the bike was 30% off, the sale price was 70% of the original price. That is .70 * 224 = 156.80.

Sales tax would be paid on the sale price, so it would be
.0925 * 156.80 = 14.50

The total cost is 156.80 + 14.50 = $171.30.

$224.00 *9.255 = 20.72 + 224.00 = 244.72 - 30% = $171.30
