Hold her hand usually her ring finger is about the size of your pinky - - by holding her hand and playing with her fingers compare and guesstimate which of your fingers hers is closest to. Then take those measurments in and talk to the sales guy they are pretty good with fittings.

And yes it's always better to get a bigger ring than a smaller one. A bigger ring can be cut down and refitted or you can buy a ring guard so she can still fit it. But a smaller ring is much harder to size you'd have to buy or bring in a piece of gold to be stretched out to make her size - - unless she just put the small ring on a necklace.

Ah the Wedding Curmudgeon speaks again. This time it's to a gal after my own heart. Hoorah! Dear one, I despise big weddings - they cost a fortune and often the couple divorces before the wedding is paid off. OK so you sit down with your honeypie and explain that while you appreciate all the glitz and glamor of a big wedding, it's just not your style - that there are things in this world that mean a whole lot more than a big rock on your hand and an event that even the royals would envy. Then say no more about weddings. Start to pare down your own expenses - like how many designer shoes do you really need? Case sales. Buy second-hand. Welome hand-me-downs from friends/family. I'm sure you do this, but make it a bit more obvious to him that you really don't need/want an expensive affair. By walking the walk - as well as talking the talk about not being materialistic you can show honeypie that you are not just whistling in the wind about how you feel. Start saving money, too. Put so much into a savings account every paycheck (you're entitled to keep 10% of what you earn - so do it) Borrow books from the library. Look for other ways to conserve money. Save that too. Now honeypie will no doubt ask what is going on here. Simply tell him that you're trying to show that you do indeed feel that conservation and saving are more important than a big to-do of a wedding. OK so finally you mentioned wedding. Then you can sit down and discuss this again. Thing is, and this may be shocking - but he may have been using the whole "can't afford a big wedding" just as excuse to not marry you at all. IF that is the case, then all your saving hasn't been for naught - you can buy your own house - sans honeypie.

Does she have any other rings? If so bring it with you and buy one it's size.

or, you could get a twist tie and make a ring for her finger and bring that to the store.

Oh and buying too big is better... that way you will have the same material in the ring rather than an added metal which might not always match 100%

Probably too big. There is a special piece that can be put in rings that are too big, so that they will fit. Then, later on, if someday her fingers become a little larger, she'll still be able to wear the ring.

True, cheaper to have it sized down. But you also don't want her to think you think she has "big" hands. Try, if you can, to get your hands on one of her other rings while she has them off. You can approximate a size by drawing a pencil circle on the inside of it onto a piece of paper. Or you could ask her mother or sister if they know her ring size.

you could get screwed either way. i would think it is easier to reduce the size of a ring rather than enlarge it. i would suggest taking in another one of her rings as a guide. you could even buy a cheap one as a sample to make sure you get the right size.

Does she wear other rings? Snatch one of those and have the ring sized that way.

It's often cheaper to get it sized down than up.

WHEN SHE FALLS ASLEEP TAKE A PIECE OF YARN AND WRAP IT AROUND HER FINGER IF YOU CANT MANAGE TO DO IT, HAVE WHO EVER LIVES WITH HER DO IT. TRUST ME THE FACT THAT YOU WENT TO THE TROUBLE WILL BE MORE PRECIOUS THAN THE RING ITSELF.

well its better that is bigger. that way when she gets in altered it wont look ugly. if its too small they have to add metal to it and sometimes they dont put the right metal. yea bigger is better!
