Once your in the NFL you need to be able to hit 50 yard kicks but in college 40 is good and high school 35 is good, alot of soccer players become kickers because of their legs and their leg strenght. It is hard to just train to be a kicker and only do that but if you play soccer its a great way to train your leg and then you just have to work on accuracy and consitancy in your kicks on the football field.

A huge thing is that a lot of kickers seem to have a background in soccer, which Americans, and African Americans in particular do not play. I also agree with the first answer that if a player is athletic then he simply isn't going to be a kicker. It's the same concept with the offensive line. There are black offensive lineman but playing the defensive line takes a little more athleticism and agility. I have no reason for center specifically.

Adam Vinatieri always kicked the ball only 50 yards on kickoffs.
To be a placekicker requires tremendous leg flexibility, speed, and strength. It also requires lots and lots of practice and consistency.
It is a position that most people have the talent to do in highschool and college if they practiced enough and effectively.

You have to have a great leg, good accuracy, and you have to be CONSISTENT with both! most importantly, you have to have nerves of steel, 'cuz kickers are the most common players to decide wins and losses.

I suppose most kickers can probably kick field goals from 50-60 yards...Not accurately but they can do it...Kick offs I would say 80 yards...
