My son has had these videos since he was 3 months old. He watches them sometimes, but never SITS there and watches them. He will watch them for a minute or two and then he will scoot off to do something else. I guess it makes me a bad parent that I want to eat a bowl of cereal or go to the bathroom alone sometimes.
Too bad they can't make a 20 minute video of the wheel spin on the Price is Right. My son digs that.

Fifteen months is a little young -- your baby will get more out of interacting with the natural world at this age. I'm certainly not anti-TV, but I'd wait until at least six months before introducing videos. A mobile would be a better bet at this age developmentally speaking. Baby Einstein may be too overstimulating for a baby this young.

At birth babies see colors that are very bright and contrasting. Their full color vision is not developed until about 3 to 4 months of age, when they can determine hues and light shades. While vision problems are rare in newborns, some babies experience difficulties. I would be careful with presenting videos to the child at this time...there are some companies that specialize in the development of children...I would try for example: Baby Einstein, Leap Frog, V Tech, and Fisher Price toys and videos.

My daugher started watching them when she was about that age, and LOVED them. She really like the galileo one, because of all the stars and such. She still watches them now and just turned 2. I think its fine to let them watch videos, as long as its in moderation. They have classical music and picutres that help stimulate the child. Had to watch my husband though, his idea of babysitting was putting her down to watch her baby einstein. I think they are fantastic! My son is 3 months old, and am planning on getting him some for christmas.

I wouldn't put a baby in front of a tv, at least for more than a half hour a day. Try the Curious Buddies: Let's Make Music. It's for ages 3-24 months. My son loves it!

My daughter is 9 months and when she was smaller I started letting her watch those Sesame Beginnings videos. She was about 3 or 4 months old. She cried all the time and when I turned on those movies she would just smile and now she LOVES Elmo :)
There is nothing wrong with babies watching TV as long as they don't watch it all the time.

my son is now 10 months old and when he was 4 months, i started him on the sesame street beginnings DVD's...he still loves them and can now remeber when a certain part is coming on, he will get so exicted. I do not think t.v. is bad for infants...it helped me stay sane and let me do small things around the house when he was being entertained. i never tried the baby einstein videos but heard they are marvelous.

Baby's attention span won't make watching a video very productive. Music is probably a better option at this stage.

My kids love them. It is a great distraction for them while I am cooking dinner. It keeps their attention just long enough for me to get things done. My son and I both learned sign language from them. ( "Baby's favorite places" and "first words around the house" are the names of the sign language videos) Who knows, maybe I will have a quiet house one day. LOL Now, if only they made them for dogs too.
