Not that either one is better than the other, but it would be nice to be able to build your own Apple Computer, by buying a motherboard and doing everything yourself. Why can't we do this, as apposed to PCs?

The Mac is a closed architecture and therefore obtaining a Macintosh compatible motherboard and BIOS is nearly impossible. If you can overcome this one fact, all the rest would be relatively easy since all other components are basically standard (video card, etc). The Macintosh does not use a bootstrap starter routine as in PCs, which is why the BIOS is perhaps the most important and most difficult aspect to get. That being said, it might be possible to use a similar hardware setup as a Intel based Macintosh but you will have to get someone to hack and make a compatible BIOS for your system.

Btw.... although you can get a EFI bootloader for the PC, making it able to BOOT a Macintosh System, it will usually fail because the Macintosh BIOS contain macintosh specific functions that are not present in a normal PC BIOS.

No! It is illegal to build your own Apple Computer. Even though if you legally purchase a legitimate copy of Mac OS X at the Apple Store, running it on PC hardware violates the End Users License Agreement! You must be an Apple Developer to do this! Im sure you wouldnt want to face Apple's well known lawyers in court would you?

Because Windows only designs the software (That you install on a Dell Gateway Compaq, HP, IBM) when Apple desgins Mac OSX and it's computers and Mac OSX works only on its computers. I was mad when i found out that i couldn't build my own. You can still customize what you get when you order a mac. My Macbook Core 2 Duo nad 1gb Ram is way better then any other computer i have ever used.

A PC is open architecture, meaning all the pieces are off the shelf.

A Mac is closed archetecture meaning only Apple knows what is going on inside the box.

Because PCs are composed of components that are produced to be interchangeable between computers, wheras Apple computers are junkpiles of crap.
