I have looked into comfort glow gas heaters and delonghi & bionaire electric heaters. My main concerns are safety, heat generating & cost effeciancy.

If you're in California, you will have to go electric. Unvented gas room heaters are no longer legal in California. If you do get electric one, be sure and get one with a "tip over" switch that automatically shuts it off if it gets knocked over...

I suggest an electric heater. A DeLonghi is what I used last year. I had 3 of them going all last winter trying to save on my heating cost in a house with more then 2000 sq. ft. of living space and it was built in 1900, drafty old windows and high ceilings. Beleive it or not I saved using these last winter. The cost then here in New England was 12 cents per hour to run, each. They are oil filled and safe to leave on when you are not home. This is according to the research I did last year before purchasing. The model I have is; EW6507L. The type is; KH650715P. It uses up to 36% less energy then conventional models.
