I'm thinking of giving my hair (which is already quite long) and I'd be interested to hear about others' experiences.

I donated about 13 inches of hair (their minimum is 12) maybe 7 or 8 years ago. It was a great excuse to make a big cut, I felt good about my donation at the time and I still look back on it with a smile. If you decide to do it, you won't regret it.

Oh, and it's not just wigs for kids with cancer, they also make wigs for kids who have allopecia (spelling?) which is the sudden loss of hair without connection to cancer, etc.

I cut 14 inches off my hair this past August and donated it to Locks of Love. My hair was super short for the first time in a very long time and it was difficult to get used to. Every time I bemoaned having "no hair" (even though I still had chin length hair), I reminded myself that some little girl has no hair because she is fighting cancer. Those reminders made it all worthwhile. I am very glad that my hair has been put to good use. Now that my hair is once again shoulder length, my friends and relatives keep asking me if I'm growing my hair for another donation. LOL
