I have very bad knees, I've already had surgery on one of them for degenerating cartilage. I'm only 20. Before the surgery, I tried physical therapy. In there I found some good stretches, but the most important thing was the discovery that I can use the stationary bike with minimal or no pain. If you decide to do this, keep it at a lower resistance. If it hurts, reduce the resistance. I usually bike on level 2 or so, although bikes differ.

my best answer at this point would be walking. strengthen your ham strings to take the load when lifting objects. hams are in the back of your legs. sit to stand strengthens this muscle or men like squats.
