My friend of 18 years told me that she is involved with a 17 year old, she's 28 and a mother of 2...She's been with him for 2 years and I think that it's wrong...When I told her that, she laughed and reminded me that I messed around with a 18 year old last year...I loved this guy, and we were more like friends but I moved away and only messed with him on my last night there...Am I wrong?

Hi Angelic13,

When love is involved, . . . . . .love is never wrong.

However, it is many times misconstrued, misinterpreted, or misunderstood, . . . . . . . .but love is never wrong as it is an absolute, therefore . . . . . it is never wrong.

You are a creature of love, therefore, never stop loving.

May love always be your constant companion throughout life as love will always keep you young, happy, and . . . . . . . .in love.

P.S. Your love was of the age of consent, therefore, you did absolutely nothing illegal or wrong in your loving him.

Afraid I cannot say the same for your friend.

FWIW, 17 is the legal age of consent in many states.

Thats not really bad. They are both adults and there are definately lots of relationships out there with 10 or more years age difference. I just hope she isn't planning on him sticking around for long because I can't see a 17 year old becoming involved in a long-term relationship with an older woman who has kids.

If they are happy, and no body is hurting anybody, then who are you to judge?

I am also driven crazy by all these people saying younger than 18 is illegal. It can be completely legal depending upon which state you are in! Age of consent is not a national law, it's state-by-state! In New York, legal age is 17, and some states go down to 16 as age of consent.

First, if he is 17 and she has been "with" him for two years... that's a felony.

Next, as long as someone is of legal age, with in reason, they are free to date and be with who ever they are. Many younger people find the company of an older Man / Woman more satisfying then dating in their own age group.

I know as an older man, I date younger women. They have better attitudes and are more fun to be around then women my own age who mainly are bitter or looking for someone to support them and their kids. And as for the women, they are attracted to me because I genuinely care about them and what they have to say. Also I am financially secure and can spoil them with the small things like dinner out, movies, concerts and venues they could not afford.

No if he was 18 that would still be weird but at least legal, if she does anything with him, she could go to jail! I think it's wrong that she's taking advantage of a 17 year old that thinks it cool to date an older women, she also has to kids to think about talk about setting a bad example

So if your question is: is it wrong for her to be seeking a relationship with someone so substantially younger than she is, when you only had like a one night stand?

That would probably be a maybe. It really depends on why she is seeking out this relationship. Is she really in love with him? Or is she just dating him so that she can make herself feel younger? If she is doing it for the wrong reasons it can have a devastating effect on both parties.

And remind her that she has kids. How do they feel about this?

In this jurisdiction, she would have committed a felony and you wouldn't have. Wrong, as in illegal depends on the age of consent your jurisdiction. As to right or wrong, that's an ethics call. I'd consider her actions wrong, yours not wrong, but YMMV.

My ex-bf is 21 years my junior and our gf is 11 years younger than me. He was, however, 29 at the time. Had all been thirteen years younger, our gf and I would have been wrong and committing a crime.

Well yeah it is sort of wrong because he is just a kid and he is not experienced enough to be messing around with a grown women but maybe I am wrong it really depends how mature he is.

You are not wrong, as in this case...it's rape. He is not 18 yet, and therefore still a juvenile...whether she likes it or not. I would point this out to her, as she can honestly be charged by his parents for engaging this relationship...and having that record isn't a pretty thing.

Your right.
She is committing statutory rape if the boy is under 18. What a 28 yo sees in a boy of 17 (he must be hung) I cant imagine.
