Yes, birth control pills do work by preventing ovulation. The hormones in them also make the lining of your uterus unreceptive to the implantation of a fertilized egg. They also thicken cervical mucus so the sperm cannot reach the egg.

Yes, they stop you from ovulating. The hormones simulate pregnancy so your body doesn't drop eggs... no need... your body thinks you're already pregnant.
That other woman is misinformed. She's thinking about an IUD. The way an IUD works is that it does not stop you from ovulating, it just irritates your uterine lining so that a fertilized egg cannot implant.
There are obviously a lot of people who don't understand it. Hmm. What you shed when you menstruate while taking the pill is uterine lining. There is no egg. If you ovulated while off the pill for the one week then you could still become pregnant and it would take two weeks from the time you stop taking the pills before menstruation would occur... not a couple of days.

Yes, this is very true! Thats why so many women choose birth control, because their fertility comes abck shortly after stopping the bill. An antibiotics can reduce the effectivness of your birth control pills, but there reallyisnt enough studies to back that up. Are you hoping to get pregnant? If you are, then good luck!

Yes, that is the point.
The hormone released by the pill signals to your brain that you are already pregnant (hence the possible weight gain and side effects) so that your ovaries will not bother to shed another egg each month. This is the truth.

It stops the egg from becoming fertilized and attaching itself to the uterine wall. It controls the hormone levels and drops them for one week so you can mensturate. It doesn't stop ovulation, that's why you have periods.

no they do not stop your ovulation. They can help regulate your ovulation, making it less painful and shorter.
