More commonly, it's people who live in the United States. But other nations in the North, Central, and South Americas can also be considered Americans, although they are known by their nation's name (i.e. Brazilians, Canadians, Mexicans - not South or North or Central Americans)
Native Americans are not actually "native" to the Americas. It's believed that they were also the first immigrants to come to the Americas, but since they were here before the "New World" was founded, they are considered the "native" inhabitants.
I believe that if you live in the United States of America, you can call yourself an American, no matter what "nationality" you are.

Only the black Americans remained standing.. odd. Thought their ancestors were brought here by slave traders.
Truth is, not even the Native Americans are native to this land. At least that is how Nokomis told all of us. What she also added was this - one is a true 'native' American, if their heart remains to the ways of old, and held kindly to those ways, and if one was born here. Period.
I was born here, 1/2 of my grandparents were not.
I do believe we need to let this go..don't you
