Gift cards are nice but not very personal...I like to give them something with their names on them,to make them unique & not end up in a garage sale that summer!Teachers like to get something thats personal & uniquely theirs, not run of the mill ideas they are used to getting every year..The price can remain low as well...Try these ideas...
-Names on items...like ornaments,pens or pencils,notepads,etc..
-Desk items
-Warm socks in bright or holiday motifs
-Car accessories...like floor mats,air freshners,mirror danglers etc..
-Kitchen gadgets...unique items
-Pet items if they have pets

How about a Starbucks gift card to go with all those mugs teachers get. $5 to $10 is a good range and the teacher gets something that she will enjoy and that is just for her/him. When I was in school, we would get our teachers a bouqet of flowers, these are easy to pick up and can be found inexpensivly at the grocery store, right now "King Soopers" a Kroger company has bouquets in holiday colors for $5. Carnations are pretty and last a long time. You can even make your own with red and white carnations and a little greenery from a wreath or garland, most grocery stores have pine greenery during the holidays.

My favorite idea for a gift is one that my daughter actually came up with - she'll draw a special picture just for that person. The people she's done that for have really liked them, not only for the art, but because the picture had been created especially for them. One person has even asked that she make another one for this year!
My mother always made cookies for all our teachers, and they all loved them - especially the male teachers!
Gift certificates to book stores are always a help too - even $5 can buy all or a lot of a good book.
Good luck!

I try to give my kids' teachers something special for the classroom. Looking around the classroom you can usually spot some things that a teacher likes. If you don't get in the classroom you can have your child look. Last year the teacher liked snoopy, so I decorated a special snoopy chair for the person of the week to sit in (kindergarten). This year my daughter has a teacher that loves music so I am making a music themed gift basket with inexpensive instruments for the classroom, etc.

Anything that can be used by the entire class: a subsciption to a magazine, gift certificate to a teacher store, a good video (nothing rated PG or even PG-13); a gift certicate tucked inside a good supply catalog; a gift certificate/card to an office supply store; outdoor toys; indoor games -- tons of kids are visual learners. Is there place for the kids to start a garden? Buy simple tools and seeds/seedlings.....

A gift certificate for an hour massage or a manicure. She probably needs something to take away the stress. If that's too costly, how about a pair of movie tickets?
Shy away from wooden apples, anything teacher-ish. She probably has that coming out her ears.

She probably has too many mugs and may be allergic to chocolate, but it's hard to go wrong with a nice small holiday floral arrangement.
Otherwise, something that is a treat, might be nice: A gift certificate for a local bookstore, coffee shop, or a spa treatment.

Being a teacher I know that we get tons of apples decorations. I would love to have someone give me a gift card to a local store so that I could get something for myself instead of boxing up more items that gets forgotten about.

Every year I make gift baskets of homemade cookies and fudge. My daughter is in 8th grade and all the teachers are asking her, "Is Mom making cookies this year? Hint to her to at least make the fudge!" It makes my daughter smile hearing the "requests" and knowing that they enjoy the baskets so much makes her proud. PLUS- when you're making dozens and dozens of cookies- the "per gift" expense goes down a lot!
