They told me"If you get arrested don't call me, if you get into trouble then you can find your own way out of it"...so I never got into trouble, self reliance. But I am positive if I had found trouble they would do what ever they could to help. Another thing I had to learn the hard way is to never ask how much something is if I'm not paying for it...it is none of my business unless I offered to pay. The main thing they said is to respect others unless I'm not getting the same.

I've learned many things from my parents, but the first thing that popped into my mind when I read your question was how my parents both taught me to keep God first in my life, and they also taught me that I don't have to touch the stove to see that it's hot....meaning I don't have to make the mistake when I already know that it's the wrong thing to do. I learned from their mistakes.

I learn a lot from my parents if even I had spent 17 years of my life away from them. I still value their support for teaching me on how to respecting others and value my culture which save me to today.so good listening to parents in early age and respect is the best answer.

My dad taught me to always behave in a way that would honor my family name, never to do anything that I'd have to apologize for or regret or be ashamed of. He also taught me to seek my own happiness because this is the only life I will get. And he taught me the value of a parent's unconditional love so I would be sure to offer it to my own children.

I learned that if I am myself, people will like me for who I am. That was a big thing for me in middle school when nobody liked me and I didn't have any friends. I tried to be someone else and no one liked me. When I became myself, I gained friends.

That it takes effort from both spouses to keep the fire burning. My mom is always complaining about my dad not taking the initiative, but she makes no attempt herself. Don't expect the man to initiate everything is what I learned.

"Principles of life that cannot be changed ,and how to benefit". My Mom gave me a post card with this poem on it to put on my mirror growing up ,because it says what she taught. "Try to not do anything you will regret ,and be a good example to others." Here it is still in my mind and heart.

THE BEST MEMORY

FORGET EACH KINDNESS THAT YOU DO,
AS SOON AS YOU HAVE DONE IT;
FORGET THE PRAISE THAT FALLS TO YOU ,
THE MOMENT YOU HAVE WON IT.

FORGET THE SLANDER THAT YOU HEAR,
BEFORE YOU CAN REPEAT IT.
FORGET EACH SLIGHT, EACH SPITE, EACH
SNEER WHERE EVER YOU MAY MEET IT.

REMEMBER EVERY KINDNESS DONE TO YOU
WHATEVER ITS MEASURE.
REMEMBER PRAISE BY OTHERS WON,
AND PASS IT ON WITH PLEASURE.

REMEMBER EVERY PROMISE MADE,
AND KEEP IT TO THE LETTER.
REMEMBER THOSE WHO LEND YOU AID,
AND BE A GRATEFUL DEBTOR.

REMEMBER ALL THE HAPPINESS THAT
CAME YOUR WAY IN LIVING.
FORGET EACH WORRY AND DISTRESS,
BE HOPEFUL AND FORGIVING.

REMEMBER GOOD ,REMEMBER TRUTH,
REMEMBER HEAVEN'S ABOVE YOU.
AND YOU WILL FIND THROUGH AGE AND YOUTH,
THAT MANY HEARTS WILL LOVE YOU.

From my biological father, who didn't want me or my brother, I learned to treasure my dad (step-father), who did.

From my mother, I learned to be fair, to truly listen, to not be afraid to show affection.

From my dad, I learned the value of being cautious with money.
