Whichever has a better cost/benefit ration in your area. Verizon DSL is 768 kbps, while Comcast cable internet is 6 Mbps or higher, while the price is only about $8 a month more for cable. So, for me that was a no-brainer.

DSL will also get slower the further you are from their data processing center, so it can be even slower yet. Cable will be slower if there are a lot of people in your area who use it.

There's no clear winner. See who offers more bandwidth for cheaper.

Basically what everyone's been saying, but to sum it up:

They both have their ups and downs. DSL is generally slower than cable and varies by your distance from the substation, but is usually cheaper and more consistant. Cable is faster, but is usually more expensive, varies greatly depending on how many people are using it (i.e. at night it can go slower than DSL, almost to dial-up in some extreme cases), and, in my experience (which is by no means absolute) less reliable. So it depends on where you are and how much you want to spend. Remember, though, most companies allow you to test it for a month or so before commiting, so you may want to do that. Good luck.

It depends on the providers in your area and the features you need.

If you have a particular ISP you want to use (for whatever reason), you will need to use DSL.

If you want a static IP address -- which very few people actually need -- your cable company probably won't provide one, but it's possible with DSL (depending upon your ISP -- see previous paragraph).

After that, it's really a function of cost and performance. In my area, cable is faster & cheaper than DSL, but your area may be different. You'll have to check both.

Cable...I have cable at home and DSL at work...I have fewer connection problems with my cable. Also, if you know that your telephone lines are not in good shape (whether its on your end or the phone company's end) your are going to get disconnected more. Cable lines are most of the time newer so the line are in better shape

Cable. My cable modem is much faster than DSL, which speed depends on how many are on and how close you are to the substation.

dsl speed is controlled on how far away your are from the local exchange box, cable is not since its just got lots of repeaters every 800metres so this doesnt cause any slowness.
also the weather can effect dsl more

Cable is faster but probebly more expensive. DSL is fast but not as fast as cable but still is fast and probebly will cost less. Another thing is you can use your phone with Cable.
