I think it is wrong to give "lists" of what you want. I mean now a days it is all about WHAT you can get and not the meaning of giving. I remember when YOU decided what to get someone on the basis that it was a thought not a duty to give. Am I alone??

ur surely not alone!!
it feels great being able to give out presents to the people i love and care for. the best part is being able to see their happy faces when they receive the present, it always brings a smile to my face.
also, i hate the idea of demanding a present from someone else. no one is required to give anyone anything. it doesn't matter how expensive or how great the present is. its the thought that matters. plus, if you already know what you're gonna get, then that would be so boring.
i have gotten many really gorgeous and expensive gifts, but nothing can beat what my dad gave me for christmas when i was 1 yr. old. my dad handdrew a series of animals on pieces of cardbaord paper with the correct number beneath each animal(s). like there was 1 blue bird on the first cardboard with the number 1 beneath the bird, two brown cats on the next cardboard with a 2 underneath, 3 yellow chicks with a 3 underneath, etc... he and my mom were both really poor then so they didn't have enough money to buy me anything. so instead my dad drew me these. he wanted me to learn the numbers. being only 1 yr. old, how could i possibly see the beauty of the gift right? but as i got older, everytime i opened up my photo album, i would see those 20 cardboards. that's how i learned to count from 1-20, that's how i learned to draw... and what touches me the most is, he put so much effort and thought into it. and that's what makes it so special to me.

I absolutely AGREE !!!! I do not give out lists and I ask no one for a list... people keep asking me an I say "if you can't think of something to get someone you care about then don't bother wasting your money"

What a load of crap it is to ask someone what they want for a gift!!! PLAIN STUPID !! Whats the point in even giving anyone anything then. Let the morons go out an buy their own crap if they feel they MUST give you a list.

I YOU don't like what I give you then too damn bad... You should feel grateful that I even thought of you rather than bltch about what you DID get.

I appreciate EVERYTHING I receive and life just keeps getting better!

Christmas is my favorite holiday. I love the idea of giving to others. When I was little my mom would ask us for a list. But...now that I'm older I like to be surprised. Let's be real, everyone enjoys getting gifts but I've grown to love giving more.

I agree with you in some ways. I never got asked by my parents what I wanted. Yet I ask my teens for a list. I ask them to put a star by their favorite item. Then I try to get a few things on the list. It helps with teens, especially as they search catalogs for clothing they like. I would never get the "right" clothes!

i'm against lists too.. if you get what's on the list the surprise is ruined, and if you don't you're just disappointed... gifts should take some thought from the giver, it's not just "get something for this person, now they're out of the way"....

I think that giving much more fun then getting the gift. It always makes me feel good when I give a girt to my friends and family.

this is such a simple idea i can't believe so many have trouble getting folks things for xmas or birthdays.

just listen.... if you listen to folks.. you'll find out what they need, want or other.

it's that simple.. listen to them.. jot down things they mention.. and see what they've gotten or not... then work on it from there.

i listen to folks all year long.. it's amazing what comes out of their mouths... i write down things they talk about and then go shopping.. if by some chance they already got it.. i send it to another or they have a backup of whatever it is.

never a let down always brings joy to those around me.
